Our Story

Please support Busega Scotland’s work in Tanzania by sponsoring us at Kiltwalk 2019.

We are aiming to walk 24 miles in Edinburgh on 15th September. Busega Scotland has an important anniversary this year. It celebrates 5 years working on projects in the rural district of Busega and nearby areas:

Mayega Children’s Centre – is a children’s home providing safe care for up to twenty-four bereaved or otherwise destitute children and young people.

Moving-on – provides educational, practical, social and emotional support for young people leaving Mayega and so ensure a positive transition to adulthood.

Family Support - through small business funding and women’s groups, the project supports very vulnerable families. Well over 100 families and over 500 children have been helped so far.

Mayega Water Project – working closely with Busega District Council the benefits of clean piped water have been brought to a village of 2,500 people.

Mayega Primary School – educational support and sports equipment have been provided by working in partnership with Lhanbryde Primary School in Moray.

We are walking for Busega Scotland because of the positive difference it continues to make and the close relationship it has with the people it supports. Volunteers from UK travel to Tanzania to work alongside the 10 people the charity employs there. All the volunteers are self-funding and there are no paid staff in the UK. This makes Busega Scotland special in the way it can maximise the benefits to its projects.

One very exciting initiative connects Mayega Primary School and the Children’s Centre. The school has 950 pupils and only 10 teachers. Busega Scotland is currently employing an extra teacher to work in the morning at the school and in the evening at the Centre. The aim is to boost attainment, particularly in the use of English.

The priority for funds raised through the Kiltwalk will be to keep the teaching support going, with the balance spent on improving facilities at the Centre and directly on the children. There is much to do.

Please help us celebrate 5 years of Busega Scotland and take its vital work forward by donating through my fundraising page. Whatever we raise will have 40% added to it by Kiltwalk, making this an excellent opportunity to support me and my chosen charity.

Thank you.
