My Story

To help celebrate my upcoming 50th birthday and raise money for 2 charities that are very important to me, I've decided I'm going to swim, walk, run, cycle...and get naked (but not all at the same time)!

I will be taking part in 5 challenges over the next 18 months to raise money for The Yard and for Strathcarron Hospice.

On this page I will be raising money exclusively for The Yard, and any donations you make will receive an additional 40% fundraising boost very generously funded by The Hunter Foundation (THF). Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button.

I have a separate page to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice (https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/grants-half-century), and I would be very grateful if you'd consider splitting any donation you are able to make between the two charities.

SO, WHAT ARE MY CHALLENGES?

March 2019 - My first Challenge is over - I completed an individual 5 kilometre swim (200 lengths) as part of the Swimathon 2019 (https://swimathon.org/)

September 2019 - My second challenge is also over - I completed the 24 mile 'Mighty Stride' walk around Edinburgh as part of the Kiltwalk 2019 (https://www.thekiltwalk.co.uk/events/edinburgh/)

September 2019 - My third challenge is also over...I threw myself butt naked into the North Sea off the Northumberland coast at sunrise with 736 other naked people as part of the North East Skinny Dip 2019...it was cold...it was very cold! (http://www.northeastskinnydip.co.uk/)

Sometime in 2020 - I will be doing a 10 kilometre race, but still to decide exactly where and when!

Sometime in 2020 - I was originally planning to cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh as part of Pedal for Scotland 2020, but I've just found out 2019 is to be the last one, so I will look for an alternative cycling challenge instead...watch this space!

WHY AM I DOING THESE CHALLENGES?

Strathcarron Hospice - my mum passed away from cancer in 2013, and she received wonderful care here in her final few weeks. They need to raise over £12000 a day just to keep their existing services running, so I'd like to give a little bit back so others can benefit from their care in the future. You can find out more about the hospice at the following link: https://www.strathcarronhospice.net/

The Yard - The Yard is an award-winning charity running adventure play services for disabled children, young people and their families in the east of Scotland. They offer disabled children and their siblings the chance to experience creative, adventurous indoor and outdoor play in a well-supported environment. My son is autistic, and absolutely loves going to The Yard Edinburgh (he really enjoys playing with the road signs and pedestrian crossing etc as you can see from my profile pic, but sometimes gets a bit tyred...!), so I'd like to raise some money to help them support more people in the future. You can find out more about The Yard at the following link: https://www.theyardscotland.org.uk/

Thank You
